Hello, beautiful souls!
My name is Carol, and I’m 44 years old. Today, I want to share my weight loss journey with you—a path filled with challenges, triumphs, and most importantly, a newfound sense of peace and self-love. So really, I should be calling this “My Journey of Self Awareness and the Real ME.” If you’re struggling with weight loss or feeling overwhelmed by the process, I hope my story inspires you to stay patient and embrace your own journey to health and wellness.
The Beginning of My Journey

About 2 years ago, I found myself at a crossroads. I was battling weight issues and a couple of medical conditions (Type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol atop the list) that affected not just my physical health but also my self-esteem and overall happiness. Despite trying various diets and exercise routines, nothing seemed to work for me. I felt frustrated, defeated, and almost hopeless while watching as the numbers on the scale barely budged.
One day, after my annual check-up, my doctor suggested exploring medical weight loss program options. At first, I was hesitant. The idea of that felt daunting, but deep down, I knew I needed a more structured approach. At least, it couldn’t hurt to explore, right? So, I did!
Embracing a Medical Weight Loss Plan
Deciding to take that step was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I enrolled in a weight loss program that included regular consultations with a specialist, personalized meal planning and lots of prepping and I even hired an exercise coach for a short time, while I got used to an exercise routine and using the equipment at my local gym. This may sound like I had it altogether, but trust me, I was far from it. It took me a little while to get to a point where I felt I had a handle on things.
The support I received from all involved, including my family and friends, was incredible. Their love and continued support helped me set realistic goals and provided the tools I needed to make sustainable changes. Unlike previous attempts where I felt alone, unsupported, and frustrated, this approach fostered a sense of community and accountability that kept me moving forward.
The Transformation
Over the last 16 months or so, I’ve lost about 55-60 pounds. Each week brought both challenges and victories. There were moments of doubt and setbacks, but the consistent support and encouragement, along with my non-negotiable commitment to myself, added up to significant progress.
Now, I’m just 10 pounds away from reaching my ultimate goal. This milestone is not just about the number on the scale for me though—it’s about the transformation I’ve experienced both mentally and emotionally too. I’ve learned to love myself more, to appreciate my body for what it’s been through and can do, and to find joy in the process rather than fixating solely on the end result.
Finding Peace in the Process
One of the most profound lessons I’ve learned is the importance of patience and self-compassion. Weight loss is not a linear journey; it’s filled with ups and downs. There were times when progress was slow, and it felt easier to give up than to push through. But with each challenge, I discovered inner strength and a resilience I didn’t know I had.
Instead of viewing weight loss as a race, I started seeing it as a journey toward my overall health and wellness. This shift in perspective allowed me to enjoy the process more and celebrate the small victories along the way. Whether it was fitting into a favorite pair of jeans or feeling more energized during the day, each achievement reinforced my commitment to this path.
Encouragement for You
To anyone reading this who is on their own weight loss journey, I want you to know that you’re not alone. EVER! It’s okay to seek help and embrace professional support if you need it. It’s even okay to recruit your family and friends too. Not everyone will be on your team, be okay with that and know that not everybody has too. You’ll come to find the what you need and maybe in the unlikeliest of places. Be oaky with that too.
My advice and tidbits of wisdom for the road ahead:
- Be Patient with Yourself: Change takes time. Don’t rush the process or set unrealistic expectations. Celebrate each step forward, no matter how small.
- Find a Support System: Surround yourself with people who uplift and encourage you. Whether it’s a medical team, friends, or family, having support makes a world of difference.
- Focus on Wellness, Not Just Weight: Shift your mindset to prioritize overall health. Incorporate activities that make you feel good, both physically and mentally.
- Practice Self-Compassion: Be kind to yourself during setbacks. Understand that it’s part of the journey and use it as an opportunity to learn and grow.
Looking Ahead
As I near my goal, I feel a profound sense of peace and accomplishment. This journey has taught me so much about resilience, self-love, and the power of patience. I’m excited to continue maintaining my health and exploring new ways to enhance my well-being.
Remember, every journey is unique, and your path may look different from mine. So, embrace your own process, be patient with yourself, and trust that with dedication and support, you too can achieve your goals.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I hope it brings you encouragement and inspires you to keep moving forward on your own journey to health and harmony.
With love and support,
Carol M.
